NPD charge man with Arson after pickup truck destroyed by fire

Nelson Police have charged a 28-year-old man with Arson in relation to an early morning vehicle fire Wednesday in the 400 Block of Josephine Street in Nelson.
Nelson Police Sergeant Nate Holt said in a media release an arrest was made early on in the investigation with the co-operation of Nelson Police Department and Nelson RCMP members.
“Nelson Police Department subsequently undertook an investigation into the cause of the fire which was determined to be suspicious in nature,” Holt said.
“A number of interviews were conducted with witnesses and area canvas performed which lead to charges of Arson being recommended against a 28-year-old male.”
Nelson Fire Rescue responded and put out the fire which originated from the cab area of a White 2012 Ford F 350 pick-up truck owned by a commercial company.
Holt said the male has been released with extensive conditions and is facing next court appearance on January 5, 2016.
“The male was not previously known to police, this matter appears to be an isolated incident and there is no need for the public to be concerned or fear additional offences,” Holt said.

Nelson Fire & Rescue called to early morning vehicle fire
Nelson Fire & Rescue Services successfully extinguished a vehicle fire in the early hours of Wednesday (December 2) said Captain Rick Maida in a media release.
The call came in to the Fire Hall dispatch at 12:30 a.m. Tuesday of a vehicle on fire in the 400 Block of Josephine Street in Nelson.
“The cab of vehicle was fully involved upon arrival of the first crew,” Maida described.
“The first arriving crew’s primary objective was suppression efforts to extinguish the fire in the vehicle involved.”
“The vehicle was parked in close proximity to an adjacent building but as a result of suppression efforts there was no damage to any other property,’ Maida added.
Maida said the fire appears to have originated in the cab of the vehicle, adding the vehicle was towed from the scene.
“Nelson Fire & Rescue responded to the incident with one fire engine, both on duty members and one additional firefighter from home,” Maida said.
“The fire was extinguished using approximately 400 gallons of water with foam mix. There were no injuries reported as a result of this incident. Damage is estimated at $ 20,000.
Cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Members of the Nelson Police Department also responded to the fire.
