Weekend fire destroys Hope businesses
Two businesses were destroyed and two other’s badly damaged by fire over the weekend.
On May 30 at approximately 9:30 p.m., police and Hope Fire Department responded to a fire alarm in the 500 block of Wallace Street. Emergency responders arrived to find smoke billowing from a local business and three adjoining businesses in danger of catching fire.
“Our officers acted quickly and evacuated residents to safety from the apartments above the burning business” said Cpl. Mike Rail.
Wallace Street was closed to traffic as fire crews fought to contain the fire.
No one was injured during the incident.
RCMP General Investigation Section and investigators from Hope Fire Department are continuing to follow investigational avenues to determine the cause of the fire.
“Foul play is not suspected in this devastating blow to the businesses community” said Cpl. Mike Rail.
