UPDATED: Weather Alert ends for West Kootenay region

Environment Canada ended its Weather Alert for the West Kootenay region.
However, the region is still expected to receive 5 to 10 mm of rain through Wednesday. Thursday, the region can expect to see a 60 percent chance of rain.
Slow moving low pressure extend Weather Alert
Environment Canada continued its weather alert for the West Kootenay region into Wednesday witih further rainfall amounts of 10 to 15 mm are expected through the morning as an upper low pressure system moves slowly through the region.
The exception will be near Creston where lesser amounts are forecast.
Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible. Watch for possible washouts near rivers, creeks and culverts.
Environment Canada continues rainfall warning into Wednesday
Environment Canada has continued its rainfall warning for much of the West Kootenay region with amounts of 25 to 40 mm expected Tuesday and through into early Wednesday morning.
Environment Canada said on its website that an upper disturbance moving just off the BC coast will bring increasing amounts of moisture and instability.
“Showers or thunderstorms will develop over much of the Southern Interior (Tuesday) with the potential for localized higher rainfall amounts of 25 to 40 mm through early Wednesday morning,” the Environment Canada website said.
“The showers will taper off later in the day on Wednesday.”
Environment Canada also said heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads along with the possibility of localized flooding in low-lying areas.
The public should also watch for possible washouts near rivers, creeks and culverts.
Rainfall Warnings are issued when significant rainfall is expected.
Environment Canada issues rainfall warning for West Kootenay region
Environment Canada has issued a rainfall warning for much of the West Kootenay region beginning Monday night and continuing through Tuesday.
“Rain, at times heavy, is expected,” the Environment Canada website said.
“Rainfall amounts of 25 to 40 mm are expected tonight through Tuesday”
The warning is due to an upper disturbance moving in from the Pacific today will bring increasing amounts of moisture and instability.
“Showers or thunderstorms are expected to develop later this evening and will become widespread over much of the southern interior on Tuesday, with the potential for localized higher rainfall amounts of 25 to 40 mm tonight through Tuesday,” the website said.
“The showers will taper off on Wednesday.”
The public is urged to be aware that heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads.
