NPD arrest man pointing replica firearm in downtown Saturday
A call to Nelson Police diffused what could have been a dangerous situation after a man was said to be pointing a replica firearm in the 400 Block of Ward Street Saturday afternoon.
The report came into NPD dispatch at approximately 4 p.m. (April 25) that a man was pointing a firearm in the downtown business district.
The caller didn’t believe the gun to be real, instead thought it was an “airsoft” — a gun that fire spherical projectiles of many different materials, including plastic, aluminum, and biodegradable material.
NPD members quickly attended and located the 35-year-old male known to police standing on the sidewalk with what looked to be a revolver in hand.
When the man saw police, he quickly concealed the gun in his pocket. The man, taken into custody without incident, was transported to NPD cells.
Police confirmed to the caller the revolver, fortunately, was not real.
The male will face charges relating to the replica firearm and breaching condition of an order he was under already.
Bad news awaits family upon return following long vacation
A local family received some bad news after returning to Nelson following an extended vacation.
It appears thieves got wind of the unoccupied home and used the residence as a flophouse while the family was away on vacation.
During their stay thieves searched the house, stealing jewelery and precious metals.
Nelson Police along with the RCMP forensic identification unit are investigating.
If anyone has information that might assist in identifying the culprits or recovering the stolen items please call Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or Constable Hannah at the Nelson Police Department 250-354-3919.
Thieves targeting unlocked vehicles in Nelson
Nelson Police report a rash of thefts from cars in the Heritage City over the past week.
Police said culprits are targeting unlocked vehicles all over Nelson and stealing change, GPS’s, satellite radios, and any other easily transportable items that have some value.
NPD have a few tops for parking cars at night:
- Lock ALL of your vehicle’s doors: This is true even if you plan on only being gone for “just a second”.
- Remember, it only takes seconds to steal items from your car. It’s not uncommon, for thieves to walk down a row of parked vehicles, looking for unlocked doors.
- Also, make sure car windows are not left open.
