Market Saturday at junction supports school and local enterprise
April 11 is Brent Kennedy Elementary School PAC’s 6th Annual Children’s Market, at the Slocan junction on Highway 6. Held in the school gym and surrounding hallway, the market is host to over 30 tables of new and used items all related to families and family life.
The market is a fundraiser for the PAC with the idea to recycle unwanted or outgrown items for babies and children and allow for completely usable items to be reused at an affordable cost in our community.
The funds raised from table fees, admission and concession/bake sales are used to supplement costs of various activities the school participates in such as school wide swim lessons or cultural events.
Over the years we have welcomed locally owned home businesses to the market which allows these businesses to gain some exposure and encourages families to shop local.
The rest of the tables are managed by families selling everything from infant and maternity clothes and equipment, to inside and outside toys, books, sports equipment, camping equipment, children’s furniture and clothes. We’ve even had a playhouse sell.
The concession is open for the entire event & sells warm drinks, hot dogs, veggie dogs and snacks from the bake sale and is run by parents and students of Brent Kennedy Elementary. Admission to the event is $2 for everyone over 12 years old and everyone 12 and under gets in free.
Doors open at 9 a.m. sharp.
