We all realize now it was too good to remain for any length of time.

Gas prices across B.C are expected — in some places of the problem the increases have already started — to rise for some time according to industry watchers.

Patrick DeHaan said on the online forecaster GasBuddy.com website that consumers can “expect prices to rise sharply across the country here in the next week.”

“Every time prices go up some areas may go up right away, some may take a few days but we’re looking at some pretty hefty increases that most of the country here is going to face in the next week,” Dehaan explained.

Currently in prices in Nelson have not spiked as of Sunday.

Dehaan said while crude oil inventories are up, gas inventories have declined, which may be a reason for the rise.

Also, abnormally cold weather has slow production at three refineries while 15 other American outlets are experiencing labour problems.

There was also a recent explosion at an Exxon Mobile plant in California.

Consumers have seen a rollercoaster ride in gas prices this winter, with prices falling to below $1 per litre earlier this year.

However, DeHaan said prices going to climb along with West Coast where in Vancouver the price at the pump is edging close to $1.30 per litre.

“These (increases) are not going to be just a penny or two, they’re likely to be double digits over the next couple of weeks, which is why we’re telling you to go out and fill up over the course of the next week,” Dehaan said.
