Truck used in break and enter of local bike shop

A local bike shop was the site of a smash-and-grab early Wednesday (February 11) morning.

Police were called at 3 a.m. of a smashed door of a bike shop at the 200 Block of Baker Street.

Attending members viewed security video to discover a truck was used to smash open the door. 

RCMP and NPD members did locate the vehicle later the same day and discover that it had been stolen. 

Evidence from the truck linked it to another theft in Nelson the same night.  

Police believe the culprits left the area in another vehicle they stole after abandoning the truck. 

The investigation is ongoing.

Aggressive panhandler gets court date after Baker Street disturbance

An aggressive panhandler is scheduled to appear in Nelson Court after being arrested Tuesday (February 10) for causing a disturbance and possession of the street drugs according to Nelson Police Department.

The incident happened at approximately 7 p.m. in the 400 Block of Baker Street.

Nelson Police Department received a call about a very aggressive panhandler shouting and swearing at people on Baker Street.

Officers attended and located the 21-year-old male, who is known to police. 

The man was arrested for causing a disturbance and in the course of a search incident to the arrest a quantity of marijuana and hashish was found in his pockets.

The male is required to appear in the Nelson Law Courts March 31 to answer to the charges and is forbidden from entering back into the downtown core at least until he appears in court.
