The name of a 47-year-old Castlegar man who held off police for hours Sunday/Monday will be released when he appears in Castlegar court tomorrow (Thursday).

Police brought in a containment team, an Emergency Response Team and a negotiator, including members from Trail, Kelowna and Creston, to manage a volatile situation that began at 1:45 p.m. on Sunday and lasted until the man was finally arrested at 4 a.m. the following day.

He will remain in police custody until his court appearance tomorrow, where he will face a laundry list of charges, likely including Assault, Assault with a Weapon, Uttering Threats, and various firearms-related offences.

Some residents of the area, in the 1000 block of 7th Avenue, were evacuated due to the potential for gunplay in the neighbourhood.

Police say this incident is not related to a recent officer-involved fatal shooting on Kinnaird Bridge on Jan. 28.
