Man murdered on Kelowna bus last night

Police are searching for a murder suspect after a 55-year-old Kelowna man was fatally injured on a city transit bus Thursday evening.

On Oct. 30, at 6:29 p.m., the Kelowna RCMP received a report of an assault on a city transit bus on Baron Road behind Dilworth Centre. The bus was northbound on Baron Road from Orchard Park Mall when it stopped at Underhill Street. According to witnesses, as the male suspect left the bus, he made a shoving motion towards the victim, who was also a passenger. The victim was found immediately after suffering from a serious injury which resulted in his death. Contrary to what was initially reported, the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The name of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

A Police Service Dog was called to the scene and quickly established a track but the suspect was not located. Through the course of the investigation, police have identified persons of interest but the suspect remains at large at this time.

“The preliminary investigation suggests this to be a random incident. We know that crimes of this nature are always disturbing to the community,” says Superintendent Nick Romanchuk, Commander of the Kelowna Regional RCMP. “I would like assure the public that all resources needed for the investigation are currently in place and every effort is being made to identify and apprehend the suspect as soon as possible.”

The Kelowna RCMP Serious Crime Unit continues to investigate and is looking for anyone with any information that might identify the suspect.
