Rossland's Red Mountain by a whisker
In a seasaw battle that saw the lead change hands numerous times in the last couple hours of voting, Rossland’s Red Mountain came out on tops over Eaglecrest of Alaska in round two of the Ski Town Throwdown III.
The Golden City mountain trailed by as many as a 1,000 votes during the final hours of voting before staging the late rally.
Red Mountain now goes on to Mount Washington on Vancouver Island in the divisional final of the Backscratcher Conference November 3-4.
Mount Washington knocked off Whitewater of Nelson by a wide margin in the other Backscratcher Conference Divisional matchup.
The winner advanced to the Conference Final November 5-6.
The Ski Town Throwdown III Championship goes November 10-14.
Rossland’s Red Mountain ready for round three
If Heritage City skiers want to see a West Kootenay hill have a chance to do some damage in the Powder Magazine Ski Town Throwdown contest, they had better toss their support behind Rosslanders and Red Mountain.
The Golden City squad currently leads its battle against Eaglecrest of Alaska in the Ski Town Throwdown III voting.
At last count Red Mountain held a slim lead over the Alaskan hill as time winds down in voting.
Meanwhile in the other race, after starting slow, Mount Washington on Vancouver Island holds a commanding 8,000-plus vote lead over Whitewater of Nelson.
Both competitions are in the Backscratcher Conference.

Second round of voting in Ski Town Throwdown III goes Monday

Supporters of Whitewater Ski Resort and Red Mountain have a perfect opportunity to put their respective hills on the map as the best place to ski in North America in Powder Magazine’s Ski Town Throwdown III.
Whitewater, seeded fourth in the Backscratcher Conference, is up against Mount Washington on Vancouver Island near Courtney as voting in round two begins Monday.
In other Monday voting action, second-ranked Rossland’s Red Mountain battles Eaglecrest of Alaska.
Whitewater and Red Mountain skiers can vote beginning Monday at the Powder Magazine Ski Town Throwdown III website.
Whitewater outlasted Girdwood, Alaska while Red Mountain ousted powerhouse Whistler/Blackcomb in round one of the competition.
Last year the Nelson-based resort was eliminated in the second round of the contest by Revelstoke by the narrowest of margins — 1527 to 1507.
Whitewater and Rossland combined forces during the inaugural Ski Town Throwdown contest to capture the grand prize.
Powder Magazine seeds the top 28 places to ski by ski factors vertical, snowfall, lift ticket price, skier visits, night skiing acreage, vote totals from previous Ski Town Throwdowns, brown bag policies, and wicket ticket availability, by region.
The remaining four seeds for each region were decided by a popular vote during a recent ballot.
