Trail and District Arts Council invites Nelson based singer Laura Landsberg to the “Jazz at the Griff” series Thursday October 16. Prepare yourselves for an evening of Standards from her debut recording “Naturally” and songs from her latest release “A Simple Twist”. Joining Laura for this special evening will be Tony Ferraro on Drums, Paul Landsberg on Guitar, Doug Stephenson on Bass and Don MacDonald on Violin.

“Laura Landsberg is a rare vocalist, one who can cross almost any genre with a range of expression and emotion that draws you into anything she decides to sing,” says multi-instrumentalist Craig Korth, director of the Nimble Fingers Music Festival. “She is widely known as a wonderful jazz and R& B singer. On A Simple Twist she stretches out and explores her musical curiosity to combine elements of jazz, country and even some rock to deliver a song in a way that’s all her own. The recording is a beautiful mix of stellar musicianship, great song choices and fantastic delivery. She is simply a joy to listen to.”

Laura leads a busy life as, a mother to six children, music instructor at Selkirk College, and a jazz singer. Laura has been performing her unique blend of jazz, blues, and gospel music throughout North America for over twenty years. As well as leading her own groups, she has performed with Chucho Valdez, The Brubeck Brothers, Neil Swainson, Hugh Fraser and VEJI, and the Spokane Jazz Orchestra.

Although Laura has been described as, “A remarkably fresh and unpretentious singer” (Spokesman Review), perhaps Paul Grant (CBC Hot Air), put it best when he stated, “With so many singers trying to sound like someone else, it’s a treat to hear Laura Landsberg’s fresh and original voice..she’s a natural.”

Tickets to Jazz at The Griff are $13 in advance and $18 at the door and can be purchased in person or by phone at the Charles Bailey Theatre Box Mon-Fri 12-4. Phone 250.368-9669 / 1501 Cedar Avenue Trail. Please visit www.trail-arts,com for more info. Show is at 7:30PM. Doors at 7:00. See you there.
