Here's the lineup and lowdown for Golden City Days 2014

The Rossland Golden City Days Committee is excited to bring you a weekend of fun and entertainment September 4th – 7th, celebrating our heritage, and we hope you’re planning to join us! Many activities and lots of fun are in store for you and your family.
To lead into the weekend events, wander around our fine Rossland stores the week of September 1st to take advantage of the in-store specials and sidewalk sales and be sure to visit the Golden City Days Market Madness on Thursday. The Rossland Museum will feature guest speaker, Dan Wehrle, whose presentation, “GOLD: A Treasure for Today”, will focus on the attributes, importance, and modern uses of gold in today’s society.
Friday evening at the Miners Hall, you will be treated to a great line-up of fantastic local talent and live music at the Evening of Entertainment Extravaganza! The show features the stand-up comedy acts of the talented Tara Holmes and Lisa McCauley! Tickets for this licensed event must be purchased in advance at The Red Pair Shoe Store or by contacting Lisa at 250-362-9063 or old_grey_mare_55@hotmail.com.
The annual pancake breakfast will be held at the Rossland Firehall on Saturday morning. Don’t forget to visit the Fall Fair after the parade on Saturday and enjoy browsing the many items entered by Rossland residents, as well as, check out the many vendors, informative displays, live entertainment, and concession area. The Petting Zoo will be outside on Spokane St.
From the parade Saturday morning to the many events around town, you and your children will be busy with activities all day. The parade will begin at 1st Ave and St. Paul; proceed along 2nd Ave, Butte St, down Columbia Ave, and end downtown.
The craft vendors and food booths, featuring burgers, sausages, pulled pork, falafels, donairs, kettle corn, baked goods, and cold drinks and treats, will be located in various downtown spots. The GOAT and EZ Rock will be on hand to provide music, goodies, and treats! Rounding out the food selection, the infamous baron of beef will be served by the Rossland Legion Ladies Auxiliary in the lower Legion Hall.
Saturday afternoon’s Sour Dough Alley Stage entertainment includes the Trail Pipe Band, Golden City Fiddlers, and the well-known local band, No Excuse. The Outhouse Races go in the afternoon and will feature teams who will push, pull, and run around their home-built contraption to the finish line. Cheer on your favorite team and watch to see who wins the coveted outhouse trophy!
The MOFAB Co-Ed Softball Tournament will run all weekend at various Rossland ballparks. Look for posters with information about the Huck en Berries Mountain Bike Dirt Jump Jam on Saturday. In the former Emcon lot, skateboarders will gather to take part in the Rossland Skatepark Association’s “Learn to Skate” mini ramp and skate clinic, and young bikers will enjoy ‘Fun on Bikes!’ for ages 4 – 8, hosted by BettyGoHard. Continuing with the sports activities, check out The Golden City Grind on Sunday. The Golden City Days and Fall Fair Committees, along with Kootenay Mountain Shuttle, have teamed up to provide a complimentary shuttle service to transport people between Spokane St. and the Rossland Arena in the afternoon. Schedules will be posted around town and at the arena.
Sunday’s activities on the L’École des Sept-Sommets grounds feature a community White Elephant Sale, Stake Your Claim children’s “dig for gold” event, food vendors, and family activities. Join us to sell the items you no longer need, watch your children dig for the prized “gold”, bring your lawn chairs, and enjoy this social afternoon with family and friends. Closing out the weekend, you won’t want to miss the much-anticipated return of ‘Taste of the Kootenays’ at the Prestige Mountain Resort!
Raffle tickets are on sale at Rossland Grocery and Powderhound. Your support of the Golden City Days raffle could win you a pair of MSR snowshoes from Powderhound, a beautiful Avon product-filled gift basket, a one-night stay at the Flying Steamshovel, a Red Mountain Resort one day lift ticket, or one of many other wonderful prizes, donated by our awesome and hugely supportive Rossland businesses!
