Chiller at Pioneer broken - rec commission to recommend $120,000 for new one
The refrigeration system chiller at the Pioneer Arena in Castlegar has failed which means the community has lost one ice surface temporarily.
The recreation commission will recommend to the RDCK Board at its May 15th meeting to replace the chiller at the Pioneer Arena in 2014 at an approximate cost of $120,000. The new chiller could be used at the Community Complex in the future.
The condition and future of the Pioneer Arena and whether two ice surfaces are needed will be considered during the 2014 Recreation Master Plan process. A Master Plan process includes extensive public consultation which will guide the priorities of the Castlegar and District Recreation Commission for the next five to 10 years.
“The Commission needs to set priorities that reflect community input from a Master Plan process. These priorities will guide the Commission’s decision on the long term need for a second ice surface,” said Lawrence Chernoff, Chair of the Commission.
The RDCK will be requesting community input on the Castlegar and District Recreation Master Plan this fall. All citizens will have an opportunity to have their say.
