LETTER: Our Canada Post matters to everyone!
Dear Editor:
Last night I attended an information meeting about the changes coming to Canada Post. I was very disappointed that only 31 people attended the meeting – six of those were the guest presenters – probably 10 members of the public and the rest were postal employees.
Did you know that in December 2013 Canada Post announced massive changes to the postal service in Canada? These cuts will effect every person in Canada from eliminating door to door mail delivery, reducing hours at postal offices, increasing postage rates, and much more. Some 8000 people across Canada will lose there jobs – including many in Castlegar. Lost of good paying jobs will have a huge negative effect on our local economy.
These changes have been imposed by Canada Post with very limited public consultation. As a result, it is up to us – the Canadian citizen – to tell Canada Post, and the Prime Minister that we want to have a voice in any postal change. So contact your local MP, MLA, sign a petition – do what you can!
These changes will have a profound effect on our senoirs, and those with mobility and disabilities. It’s time we stand up to this Conservative Government and tell them enough is enough!
Signed,
Sue Heaton-Sherstobitoff
City Councillor, Castlegar
