Seaman powers Leafs to Murdoch Division title
The Nelson Leafs needed to put in a little overtime en route to the 2013-14 Murdoch Division title.
Austin Seaman scored on the power play early in the first overtime to give the Leafs a 2-1 victory Saturday night over the Beaver Valley Nitehawks in Kootenay International Junior Hockey League action in Fruitvale.
The goal was the second of the game for the Leaf rookie defenceman.
The win clinches the first Murdoch Division title for the Leafs in five years.
The Leafs now face the Spokane Braves in the first round of the Murdoch Division playoffs beginning Tuesday in Nelson.
Seaman, scoring his seventh and eighth goals of the season, gave Nelson the early lead before Dan Holland replied for the Hawks on the power play.
With Beaver Valley controlling the play late in the third period, the hosts were called for a delay of game penalty with 32 seconds remaining.
Nelson, 38-9-1-4, carried the man-advantage into the extra time with Seaman driving home the winner.
Adam Maida picked up the win in goal for Nelson.
Beaver Valley now faces Castlegar Rebels beginning Tuesday in Fruitvale.
