Teck reports spill
Teck Trail is informing the public of the spill of up to 25 cubic metres of a high pH solution into a Regional District Sewage Treatment Plant.
“Teck Trail Operations is reporting that on Tuesday, January 28, up to 25 cubic meters of a high pH solution was discharged to a domestic sewer line that goes to the Regional District Sewage Treatment Plant,” said a press release issued this afternoon (Friday).
“The Regional District Sewage Treatment Plant discharges to the Columbia River. Regulatory authorities, including the Provincial Emergency Program, Ministry of Environment and Environment Canada were notified of the incident. Teck is conducting a full investigation and additional operational safeguards have already been implemented.
“There is not expected to be any long-term impact on fish or the environment. A third-party environmental impact assessment will be conducted.”
