YRB warns Kootenay Pass drivers 10-15 cm snow drop
The New Year has brought in a weather system that is going to drop as much as 10-15 centimeters of snow on the Kootenay Pass said Marc Dale, Yellowhead Road and Bridge Operations Manager for Southeast Kootenay.
“We will have our resources on the roads throughout the night yet with this volume of snow forecasted (motorists should) be prepared for compact, slippery conditions and limited visibility,” Dale said.
The Pacific system is crossing northern Washington State, heading into the southeast part of BC.
Dale said anyone driving to work Friday morning should give extra time and expect longer travel times.
“And with temperatures just above freezing there will be compact snow, and slush,” Dale adds.
Dale said YRB will have plows travelling the main routes throughout the night.
However, motorists should slow down and drive to weather and road conditions
