Golden and District SARS rescued to a pair of injured skiers caught in an avalanche near Hope Creek, an area North West of Golden Sunday (December 29).

Golden RCMP received a report at 4:11 p.m. MT from the International Emergency Response Reporting Centre that they had received a spot beacon activation, that a group of back country sled skiers had been involved in an avalanche.

One of the parties involved was able to relay information through an InReach device, to confirm that all members of the party were accounted for but they had two injured members.

They were also able to provide GPS coordinates for their location.

Golden and District Search and Rescue responded and were able to reach the two injured parties in the late evening.

They stabilized the injured and remained with them through the night until they were flown out by helicopter in the morning light.

Injuries are described as serious but not life threatening.

Police would like to thank the dedicated members of the Golden and District Search and Rescue, who train regularly and selflessly volunteer their time to respond to situations such as this.
