Christmas shoppers may have got more than they bargained for when out and about it Trail Friday, as several got to witness a single-vehicle accident followed by a Jaws-of-Life extrication.

Trail RCMP Cpl Devon Reid said police got a call at around 2 p.m., regarding an MVI only about a mile down Highway 3B from the detachment en route to the mall.

“A vehicle went offroad to the left and collided with the embankment,” he said. “The vehicle then flipped on its side, trapping two people within, because the doors wouldn’t work.

“The Jaws of Life were required to get them out, and both were transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.”

Reid said the crash is being attributed to slippery road conditions, and police have to reason to consider alcohol or speed factors in the incident.
