YRB Manager warns Kootenay Pass drivers of possible 'winter-like conditions'

The date on the calendar said its the first day of Fall but already highway crews are bracing for winter.
Marc Dale, Operations Manager for Yellowhead Road & Bridge Ltd. said travellers on the Kootenay Pass should expect winter-like conditions though Monday night.
“It is that time of year were we have extreme fluctuations of temperatures and precipitation at higher elevations,” Dale said in an emailed statement.
“Forecasts for the next 48 hours identify periods of rain to continue at lower elevation as well as the potential of snow from 1300 meters and higher over night.
Dale said with the risk of road snow, slush and below freezing temperatures over 1300 metres in elevation the motorists should brace for the risk of winter driving conditions on Kootenay Pass during the next few days.
“For all of you that will be travelling over Kootenay Pass this evening or early Monday and Tuesday morning please use extreme caution and expect winter like conditions,” Dale said.
“Due to the temperature fluctuations the potential for dense fog with limited visibility can be expected.”
Dale saild YRB will have have winter resources patrolling the Pass throughout the night as crews expect most motorists to be driving with summer tires.
