Lots of new programs starting up this fall!

Lots of great programs starting in the next few weeks!

The Kids Clay Arts with Sarah Zanussi starts on Monday, September 23 at 4:45pm.  This class runs September 23, 30, October 7 and 28 for one hour on Monday evenings.  The class is for kids ages 7-12 years who are interested in creating clay projects using basic techniques.  This is a fun, creative class!

The Youth Wheel & Hand Building course for youth ages 12+ starts on Monday September 23 from 6:30-8:00pm and runs for 6 sessions.  Youth will learn the art of throwing clay onto a wheel and then shaping the clay to create projects such as bowls, mugs, animals and more. 

The Sunrise Music for Youth Children programs starts on Tuesday October 1 at 9:30am.  This preschool program for children ages 3 & 4 (and their parent or caregiver) is a 10 week program that introduces singing, rhythm, games and crafts.  The curriculum develops the children’s listening awareness, fine motor skills, social interactions, confidence and attention span.  All books, materials, instruments and a CD are included. 

The children’s Co-Ed Recreation Hockey program starts on Thursday October 10 at 3:45pm and runs until February 2014.  For families with financial difficulties, an anonymous donor has provided the funds for two lucky participants.  Please register with the Recreation Department first and then enter to win the draw for children who could benefit from assistance.  The entry forms can be filled out at the Rossland News office. The draw takes place on October 8th. 

The Home Alone course has been postponed to allow for more registrations.  This course provides children with the skills they need to feel safe and confident in stressful situations, household mishaps and in the event of an emergency. 

Karatehas been postponed while the Rec Department and the Instructor are investigating options for Insurance coverage.  We’ll update the participants and the community about a start date as soon as possible. 

The Women’s “Accelerator” Mountain Biking Program is running on Saturday, September 22 from 10:00-3:00pm. 

The Recreation Department is looking for qualified, certified Aerobics and Fitness Instructors to teach morning classes in the Miners Hall.  The morning classes typically start at 9:00am and cater to an enthusiastic group of seniors.  The Stretch and Strength, Low Impact Workout class has a regular following of participants who would love to see this class resume.  Please contact our office if you’re interested in discussing the specifics. 

TheCanskate, Rising Stars andStarskate programs are starting soon!  Programs run from October 2—March 12 in the Rossland Arena.   The Rossland Figure Skating Club Skate & Gear Swap / Sale & Registration is agreat opportunity to sell and or purchase skates and figure skating costumes and dresses and get more information about the Skating Club!  If you missed the early registration dates, late registration will take place on Thursday, September 19 at the Rossland Mountain Market between 3:00-6:00pm.  For more information contact Teri Mack at terimack@live.ca, or 250-362-7340. 

There are two great concerts coming to the Miners Hall in the next two weeks!  On Monday, September 23, the Starbelly Jam Music Festival presents…JEFF CROSBY & THE REFUGEES with BUCKMAN COE.  This is an all-ages dance at the Miners Hall, with doors opening at 6:00pm and the show at 7:00pm.  Tickets are available at the Alpine Grind.  Adult – $10 advance/ $15 at door, Youth/Senior – $8 advance/ $13 at door.  Enter the draw to win Starbelly Jam 2014 weekend passes.   Buckman Coe was recently voted second for Best Unsigned Band in the Georgia Straight Reader’s Choice Contest.  His songs are progressive and contemporary, and convey an appreciation for life that’s seldom expressed with such genuineness and depth. 

On Friday September 27 at the Miners Hall, Cod Gone Wild is playing at this all age’s concert.  The show starts at 7:00pm with tickets being sold at the Alpine Grind, in Rossland.  Tickets are $15.00 in advance and $20.00 at the door.  For more information, check out their website at;  www.codgonewild.com
