A black bear was hit on the highway near Christina Lake
A black bear was killed on Hwy. 3 between Christina Lake and Grand Forks, Thursday morning around 7 a.m.
The bear collided with a truck and was tossed to the shoulder, according to Emcon division officer Ken Lawson. The driver of the truck was uninjured.
Witnesses reported seeing a cub at the scene. It disappeared into the bushes.
No effort will be made to track down the cub, said Brennan Clarke, a Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations spokesperson. This is considered the best alternative for the cub.
The governments stance is that, if he was captured and raised by humans he would lose his fear of humanity and would become a threat when he reached maturity.
