The Regional District of Central Kootenay is hosting another opportunity for residents to dispose of toxic hazardous materials hiding in and around the basement.

This is a free disposal for residential household hazardous waste and is open to all residents of the RDCK and municipalities. Industrial and commercial wastes are not accepted at these locations.

The date for Nelson residents is Saturday, October 5 at the Nelson Leafs Bottle Depot near Nelson Ford from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Castlegar is also hosting a drop-off at the District Community Complex from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Household hazardous waste is any waste in the home that is considered to be dangerous or that you are unsure of, including any leftover household product that is marked flammable, corrosive, explosive or poison.

Common examples are pesticides, varnishes, paints, cleaners, and batteries.

These products are harmful to humans, animals or the environment if not handled properly and should not be put in the garbage or poured into a drain and they should be stored away from children.

The Nelson date is the fourth on the RDCK calendar.

Saturday, September 21, is reserved for Creston residents at the Community Complex from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The same day Nakusp is hosting a drop off at the arena.

Sunday, September 22 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Kaslo is hosting a round-up at Vimy Park.
