Boundary residents have an opportunity to help out Calgary flood victims, thanks to local community members and business that are taking donations of both monetary and non-cash items.
The supply list needed by flood victims is growing and includes new underwear, shop vacuums and pumps, clothes, appliances, cleaning supplies, all baby gear and even prom dresses because some of the high schools haven’t been able to have their graduation ceremony yet.
Steel-toed boots are also on the list, and will help with the clean-up.
“They are turning away volunteers because they need steel-toed boots to work,” said Boundary Electric employee Cindy Ormiston, who is helping organize the collection.
Boundary Electric is collecting non-cash items, which will be shipped to Calgary when their truck is full. They can collect items from Monday to Friday between 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. at their business on 7990 Columbia Drive in Grand Forks. The company will either take their own truck to Calgary or join up with the relief efforts in Trail. For more information about this donation location, call 1-800-663-5598.
For people that don’t have items to donate, cash donations are being accepted at Sears locations across Canada. All money collected will go straight to the Red Cross. The Grand Forks’ Sears is located at 7281 5th Street. For more information, call 250-442-5152.
Regional District of Kootenay Boundary (RDKB) area C director Grace McGregor would like to encourage all Christina Lake residents to make either a donation of supplies or funds to one of the locations or directly to Red Cross.
“That’s really a great way to help,” she said.
