Grade schoolers get kudos from cop
Students at Twin Rivers Elementary School got a treat yesterday when a local police officer came around to thank the kids for their support.
On June 3, Castlegar RCMP Const. Rob Gardner attended Twin Rivers to talk to the students about the upcoming Cops for Kids Ride.
“I am the school liaison officer for Twin Rivers and I noticed they had a Charity fundraiser going,” Gardner. “I further noted that the charity they chose to support for this year was the Cops for Kids charity that I am involved in.
“I wanted to let the kids know how their fundraising affected their community, and thank them.”
Cops for Kids are dedicated RCMP, CBSA, Sheriff members and support people of the RCMP South East District that are committed to assisting children that are in medical, physical or traumatic crisis within the Southern Interior Region. Our charitable foundation was formed in 2001 and, since inception, we have tirelessly worked to raise funds to continue our ongoing support to the children in communities that we serve. Cops for Kids are devoted to helping the little hearts…in our communities!
Our signature event, the Cops for Kids Ride, gives us the opportunity to not only showcase our generous sponsors but raise awareness and the much-needed funds to continue our pledge to assist children in crisis. This gruelling 10-day bicycle ride occurs each September over some very challenging terrain. Each and every rider is constantly reminded of whom we ride for and we recognize that although we may have had a rough day it is nothing compare to the days that some children face with their own challenges with health, safety and happiness. For this, we remain focussed and dedicated. This year’s ride is starting in Kelowna on Sept. 6 and will be coming through Castlegar on Sunday Sept.8.
This is Gardner’s second year on the ride. The next Castlegar fundraiser is a barbecue this Saturday, hosted by M&M Meats, on June 8 starting at 10 a.m. Please come out and support this cause.
