McKay, Moroney headline Zone One West Kootenay Junior Golf Team

Two players from Birchbank head the four-person Zone One West Kootenay Junior Golf Team after qualifying this weekend at the Silver City and Redstone courses.

Tyler McKay and Brenan Moroney top the four-player team.

David Launier of Rock Creek and Isaac Janzen of Creston round out the team.

McKay finished the two-day competition with a 36-hole total of 151.

Moroney finished 11 shots back in second with Launier and Janzen third and fourth, respectively.

Saturday at Redstone, McKay took the early lead on the field with a 79 in rainy, wet conditions.

Carson Arcuri from Granite Point at Nelson was the next closest competitor with a round of 82.  The flight winners were Moroney in the 17 – 18 year division, Arcuri in the 15 – 16 year division and Kaden Lane from Christina Lake in the 14 and under division.

Sunday, McKay posted an even par 72 to win the overall title by four shots over Brenan Moroney who took the 17 and 18-year division for the second straight day. 

Launier won the 15 and 16 year division and Kaden Lane took the 14 and under.

Players also attended a  BCGA Development Camp, under the guidance of local pro Kevin Nesbitt BC Team Coach, Matt Palsenbarg.

The B.C. Junior Golf Championship is July 2 – 5 at the Revelstoke Golf & Country Club in Revelstoke.

19TH HOLE: Birchbank is playing host to the B.C. High School A Golf Championships May 26-28. Players representing schools from throughout the province will be attending the 36-hole tournament.
