UPDATED: Driver of alleged hit and run located by NPD

Nelson Police Department would like to thank the public for helping in the investigation of an alleged hit and run (Wednesday) April 24 near the Gyro Park lot in the Uphill district.

After hearing news in local media the driver immediately attended Nelson Police Stanley Street offices to provide information regarding this incident.

The matter was quickly resolved with no charges by NPD.

The incident is now being handled by ICBC.
 
The Nelson Police would like to remind the public that according to the provisions of the Motor Vehicle Act, the driver or person in charge of the vehicle that is, directly or indirectly, involved in an accident must do all of the following:

•             Remain at or immediately return to the scene of the accident;
•             Render all reasonable assistance;
•             Produce in writing to any other driver involved in the accident and to anyone sustaining loss or injury
 
1.            His or her name and address,
2.            The name and address of the registered owner of the vehicle,
3.            The licence number of the vehicle, and
4.            Particulars of the motor vehicle liability insurance card.
 
In the above incident, the investigation revealed that the driver acted appropriately by remaining on scene and assisting the cyclist; however, the driver’s name and address was unintentionally not provided due to unforeseen circumstances.

NPD seek assistance in hit and run investigation involving 12-year-old cyclist

Nelson Police is asking for the public’s assistance after a young girl on a bicycle was cut off by a small red vehicle near Gyro Park (Wednesday) April 24.

The incident occurred at approximately 3:45 p.m. when the 12-year-old was riding to soccer practice with a friend near the Gyro Park parking lot.

The unidentified motorist cut off the girl, forcing her to the pavement with a chipped tooth and minor abrasions to her face.

Fortunately, the youngster was wearing a helmet and was travelling at a low rate of speed.

Police would like to speak to the driver or witnesses in this matter or anyone else having relevant information into this investigation.

The vehicle involved is described as a smaller red automobile similar to but not confirmed to be a Toyota Yaris.

Although the driver did stop at the scene, police would like to speak to the driver to obtain further information.
