The Kootenay Music Awards are returning this year after a raucous event last year at The Royal.

Title sponsor The Nelson Brewing Company has come on board and Black Press has partnered with KMA founder Chad Hansen to ensure the awards not only continue but flourish in the years to come as a fundraising opportunity for Kootenay Coop Radio.

Artists and fans alike will begin submitting there favourites from the past year or so in February. We will then via a panel of five judges short list that to the nominees.

From that point it becomes an online voting competition for a month with the winners being announced (Friday) May 10 at Spiritbar in Nelson.

All proceeds from the door that night go to Kootenay Coop Radio.

Last years online buzz lead to artists seeing between 500-2500 listens.

A lot of people listening to new, locally produced music from right here in the Kootenays areas all genera’s, meaning great exposure for the artists and new music for fans.

The goal of the night isn’t so much to pick winners, but to celebrate the entire community that adds so much to our quality of life here in the Kootenays.

A night to celebrate the fan in all of us.

This year we will see coverage from Fernie to Golden and expose up and coming and established artists alike to new audience’s every wear in the Kootenays.
