Smoke Eater named to All-Star team

Trail Smoke Eaters forward Brent Baltus has been named to the 2012-13 BCHL Interior Conference Second All-Star Team.

Baltus, 20, leads the Smoke Eaters in scoring this season with 24 goals and 51 points from 46 games played. The Nanaimo product also leads the Smokies in short-handed goals with two this season. In 115

career BCHL games with Trail, Nanaimo and Alberni Valley, Baltus has amassed 38 goals and 82 points, 81 of which have come in a Smoke Eaters uniform. Baltus is committed to NCAA Division I Alaska-Anchorage for the 2013-14 season.

“Brent’s been a model of consistency and a real leader since arriving in Trail,” stated Smoke Eaters head coach/general manager Bill Birks. “This honour is a testament to his hard work with our program and I’m thrilled to see him named an all-star by the BCHL.”

Baltus was also named a co-winner of the Smoke Eaters’ Most Valuable Player award at a team banquet Tuesday.

The BCHL announced its first and second all-star teams, and all-rookie team Wednesday morning.
