UPDATE: Fire on Mill Creek Road third at the same property

Grand Forks RCMP are “deeply concerned” over a rash of deliberately set fires being set in a residential area off North Fork Road, said Grand Forks RCMP staff sergeant Jim Harrison.

Late last afternoon, Thursday, Feb. 21, Grand Forks RCMP and the Grand Forks Fire Rescue attended a fire that was set on the same private property on Miller Creek Road as three previous fires. All three fires involved outbuildings or vehicles and no one has been harmed.

“We do have some possible suspects we are working on,” said Harrison during a telephone interview with The Boundary Sentinel on the morning after the incident. “There is obviously something going on up there with the people residing on that property. It seems to be a weekly event that something burns up there.”

He said the fire at Hummingbird Bridge that occured earlier this week when two jerry cans of gasoline were ignited alongside the structure, may or may not be releated. But the RCMP are treating all five fires as arson cases.

“We are deeply concerned as this contineus,” said Harrison. “Will a residence or people be affected next? They’re ruining property right now but it could esculate.”

RCMP are calling for the public’s help in stopping this criminal act.  They believe this is a case of a personal vendetta between two or more people.

“Somebody up there knows whats going on and we’ll find that somebody,” said Harrison.

The bus that was burned out in the latest incident was an uninsured and decommissioned school bus.

If you have some information to share with police about this case please call the Grand Forks detachement at 250-442-8288 or you can leave an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
