Three people escape injury during Monday afternoon accident west of Nelson

Three people escaped serious injury following a two-vehicle accident Monday afternoon near the Granite Road turnoff eight kilometers west of Nelson on Highway 3A.

The accident, a few 100 meters on the Nelson side of the Taghum bridge, happened shortly after noon when a newer import compact traveling from Castlegar to Nelson collided with an older model GMC pickup.

Two occupants in the import vehicle walked away from the accident after their vehicle rolled a few times before come to rest in the ditch near the CP Rail tracks.

“We were coming from Castlegar and I fell asleep,” the passenger said at the accident scene.

“When I woke up we were rolling into the ditch.”

The driver of the GMC pickup also was unhurt.

RCMP along with firefighters from the Nelson Fire Department attended the scene.

Firefighters were seen spraying down the tail end of the pickup that came to rest in the ditch.

RCMP officers spent most of the afternoon trying to reconstruct the accident scene and continue to investigate the mishap.
