Nelson man remanded after threatening to stab Wholesale Club staff with HIV contaminated hypodermic needle

A 29-year-old Nelson man has been remanded to appear in court Tuesday after threatening to stab staff at the Real Canadian Wholesale Club Friday with a hypodermic needle he claimed was filled with HIV contaminated blood.
The incident occurred at 11 a.m. Friday (February 8) when staff noticed the man shoplifting items at the waterfront grocery store.
Staff reported to police they had reportedly apprehended the male after he attempted to the leave the store with a quantity of concealed goods.
During the apprehension the man became combative and threatened to stab Real Canadian Wholesale Club staff members with the HIV contained hypodermic needle,
NPD members arrived on scene and immediately arrested the male for Uttering Threats and Theft under $5000.
The male is being remanded in custody until Tuesday’s Nelson court appearance.
Homeowner fends off intoxicated man from Fairview residence
Saturday at 6:35 a.m., Nelson police received a call of a severely intoxicated man trying to enter a residence in Fairview.
The resident, a home at the time, stopped the male from entering before an altercation ensued.
A neighbour noticed the altercation and assisted the resident until police arrived on the scene a short time later.
The man was immediately placed under arrest.
During the arrest he assaulted one of the NPD officers.
The 29-year-old Nelson resident now faces an Assault Police Officer charge and is scheduled to appear in Nelson Court on May 28.
The officer sustained minor injuries from the assault.
Too much alcohol prevents resident from finding way home
In the early hours of Sunday, NPD officers responded to a call from a surprised Uphill resident.
Shortly after midnight, the surprised resident found an unknown, and severely intoxicated, female in his basement.
When officers arrived they discovered the female had entered the wrong house.
Police quickly transported the female to correct residence a couple blocks away.
Nelson Police are not considering charges in relation to this matter.
