Trail to host youth debate championship
The Law Foundation Cup, the official High School Provincial Championship of The Debate and Speech Association of British Columbia (DSABC), will be hosted here in Trail at J.L. Crowe High School and St. Michael’s Catholic Elementary School March 1
-2. Debate teams from high schools all over the province will be deliberating prepared and impromptu topics. Novice, Junior and Senior teams will be judged over four rounds of debates; winners will be recognized at the wind-up banquet and award ceremony to be held at the Colombo on Saturday night.
“Hosting events like this is great exposure for Trail, and it’s a great opportunity for our younger generation from all over the province to experience our city,” said Trail communications coordinator Andrea Jolly. “It’s also a great opportunity for our residents to come out and support our city’s youth in the debates.”
You have an opportunity to see some great discussion in action. Volunteer judges are still needed. While experience is helpful, guidance will be provided to those who are new to the task; a brief explanatory workshop will be given prior to the event. To volunteer as a judge at this event, please contact Catherine Adair 250-921-8073.
