Two men were sent to hospital and one is facing a laudry list of charges after a violent incident in the wee hours of Tuesday morning, according to Trail RCMP Sgt. Rob Hawton.

‘On Jan. 8 at 1:35 a.m., Trail RCMP were called to a residence in West Trail where a male had broken in and assaulted a male occupant,” Hawton said. “A female occupant of the residence, who the suspect was looking for (sic), escaped through a rear window. During the course of the assault, a hammer was used and the victim suffered head lacerations and bruising. The female was not hurt.

Hawton said the suspect then left the house and police found him hiding under a vehicle further down the street.

“He had a deep self-inflicted laceration to his arm and had to be transported to Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital,” he said. “The victim was also taken to hospital and later discharged.”

Hawton said the suspect, a 32-year-old Creston resident, was discharged from hospital in the afternoon of Jan. 8 and remains in custody.

“He is charged with aggravated assault, assault causing bodily harm, assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, break and enter, and breach of probation. He was remanded to appear in Rossland Provincial Court on Jan. 10.”
