The Revelstoke RCMP activated the Revelstoke Search and Rescue Team this past Saturday to complete a backcountry rescue of a lone skier.

Late Saturday afternoon (January 5) the Revelstoke RCMP received a report of the man getting separated from his friends while the group was skiing at the Revelstoke Mountain Resort.

The man ended up outside of the resort controlled area boundaries and became lost in the Montana Creek area.

The local SAR team was activated Saturday, however due to night fall and weather conditions searchers had to wait until Sunday morning in order to safely assess and enter the area.

Revelstoke Search and Rescue technicians located the 30-year-old man Sunday morning at around 9:40.

The man, originally from Jacksonville Wyoming, was found safe and sound after spending a chilly night awaiting his rescuers.

Winter means more than just fresh powder and backcountry skiing to SARS teams in B.C.

SARS volunteers continually find themselves out searching for lost skiers and boarders.

Last week four snowboarders spent the night near Whitewater after becoming lost while in the backcountry.
