It was a busy, but not  earth-shattering, holiday season for Trail RCMP, according to RCMP top cop Sgt. Rob Hawton.

“There were 117 files between Christmas and New Years,” Hawton said. “It’s been a fairly steady, fairly busy period. But those are also mostly routine calls, nothing that really stands out.”

He said routine calls included a number of false alarms, false 9-1-1 calls, bylaw complaints, missing person complaints in which the person was found in short order, and so forth.

He said several of the false 9-1-1 calls were cases-in-point as to why you should not program 9-1-1 into your cellphone, especially if you have no protective case to prevent accidental pocket-dialing.

“What I don’t see, is a bunch of drinking-and-driving charges in this time frame, which is good,” Hawton added. “I understand transit services were quite well-used this holiday.”

The good news for Trail residents would be the lack of serious crime over the holidays.

“I didn’t see any spikes in the more serious offenses we deal with,” Hawton said.
