Kootenay Ice gain series split against North Island Silvertips

The Kootenay Ice won its third game of the season by stopping the North Island Silvertips 3-0 in B.C. Hockey Major Midget League action Saturday in Nanaimo.

The Silvertips rallied back Sunday to grab a series sweep with a 2-0 win.

Cranbrook’s Trevor Van Steinburg scored his first of two in the game less than a minute into the opener to spark the Ice attack.

Ryan Neil of Fruitvale also scored for Kootenay.

Brandon Sookro of South Slocan has two helpers for the Ice.

Harrison Whitlock of Fruitvale earned the shutout for Kootenay.

Sunday the Silvertips received goals from Joe Surgenor of Courtney and Curtis McCarrick of Nanaimo to dump the Ice.

Kootenay now improves to 3-17-2.

The Ice host Vancouver Northeast Chiefs this weekend in Castlegar.

Saturday’s opener is at 4 p.m. with game two going Sunday at 10 a.m.
