he opening of the anticipated Mount Carlyle Art Exhibition took place Friday night at the Rouge Gallery in Rossland. It was the kick off for the Rekindle the Spirit weekend activities.

Five Kootenay artists, Louise Drescher, Stephanie Gauvin, Brigitte Desbois Jenny Baillie, and Mirja Vahala, exhibited paintings that they had worked on for the past two months since their sojourn into Carlyle Lodge in September.

Each artist’s unique style is represented in a number of paintings depicting the alpine meadows of the Goat Range in the fall. From Desbois’s soft impressionistic oils, to Drescher’s bold lines and colours, they all seem to have captured the magic of the dying autumn light.

Reminiscent of the ecclesiastical Renaissance Era, many of the canvasses are framed in classical gold to harmonize the colours of the brilliant yellow alpine larches. Clearly, being up in the mountains was an experience of a different spiritual order. The show will be on until the end of December and will travel next fall to Revelstoke.
