Trail woman killed in downtown car accident

An accident this morning on Eldorado Street at Bay Avenue took the life of a 71-year-old Trail woman, Diane Latondress, according to RCMP Sgt. Rob Hawton.

“At approximately 10:30 a.m., Trail RCMP, along with Fire and Ambulance, responded to a motor vehicle collision on Eldorado St. at Bay Avenue,” he said. “A minivan was proceeding through the intersection crossing Bay Avenue and collided with a parked vehicle on Eldorado Street near the intersection.”

He said this second vehicle, with one passenger inside was pushed up onto the sidewalk but did not strike anything else. This occupant suffered only minor injuries.

“The driver (and lone occupant) of the minivan was transported to hospital, where she was pronounced deceased,” he said. “Preliminary investigation indicates the driver of the minivan suffered a medical event prior to the collision, which occurred at low speed. There was no one else hurt in the incident. The driver of the minivan has been identified as Diane Latondress, 71, of Trail. Trail RCMP along with West Kootenay Traffic Services and the coroner continue to investigate.”
