Update as of 4:17 p.m. Monday:

Police say the two victims of an armed assault in a Silverton residence Sunday morning are both local males (names and ages have not yet been released).

RCMP Staff Sgt. Dan Seibel said it appears that one of the two victims was known to one of the four alleged assailants (all four of whom are males from the Lower Mainland/Vancouver area, ranging in age from 22 to 62), and that the victims don’t appear to have been randomly targeted.

“I’m not able to say for sure if drugs were a factor, but it’s certainly a possibility,” Seibel said, adding he hopes to see more details when the Crown swears charges in the next day or so.

“We’ll be recommending a number of charges.”

UPDATE as of 3:15 p.m. Monday:

“The RCMP investigation into yesterday’s break and enter and assault in Silverton is continuing.  The suspects remain in police custody at this time,” said RCMP Staff Sgt. Dan Seibel.

“All four males arrested yesterday reside in the Lower Mainland/ Vancouver area. The names of the suspects are not being released at this time until charges are approved.  The suspects ages vary between 22 and 62 years of age.”

Seibel said he anticipates being able to provide more information Tuesday morning.

Previous story:

Sunday morning saw Slocan Lake Det. and Nakusp Det. RCMP members responding to a report, at roughly 11:30 a.m., of an armed robbery in Silverton involving two suspects with guns.

“Two male subjects reportedly entered the Red Mountain Road residence pointing firearms and got into a physical altercation with two residents,” said RCMP Staff Sgt. Dan Seibel. “One of the residents was stabbed and one of the suspects was also stabbed.

“Following the altercation, the two victims were able to flee the scene and the occurrence was reported to police,” he added. “The suspects departed the residence and their vehicle description was passed along to neighbouring detachments and Nelson P.D., and road checks were strategically set up and patrols of the area made.”

At roughly 2:30 p.m., according to Seibel, Midway and South Okanagan RCMP stopped the suspect vehicle on Hwy 3 near Bridesville.

“Four male occupants/suspects were taken in custody without incident.  A subsequent search of the suspect vehicle revealed a handgun and pellet gun,” he said. “The police investigation is continuing.”
