Cats head coach Cary Fisher knew at training camp the Kootenay Wildcats had probably the best goaltending team in the province.

This past weekend he witnessed it first hand.

Lauren Biggs of Salmo pitched a shutout and Fernie product Kimberley Huisman scored the only goal sparking the Kootenay Wildcats to a 1-0 victory over Fraser Valley Phantom Sunday afternoon in B.C. Female Midget AAA Hockey League action in Kaslo.

The loss was only the second of the season for the first-place Phantom and allowed the Cats to take over sole possession of third place in the five-team league.

Saturday two second period goals was enough to power the Phantom past Kootenay 2-1.

Chelsea Wilson and Delaney Duchek scored for the winners while Stephanie McAuley of Trail replied for the Cats.

Morgan Flynn of Castlegar took the loss for the Cats.

Kootenay, with players from Fernie to Golden in the east and Trail to Salmo in the west, is idle for a few weekends before travelling to Kelowna November 24-25 for a two-game set against the Rockets.

The Female Midget AAA League started during the 2007-2008 season to provide an opportunity for elite female hockey players to come together on zone teams to challenge other elite Female Midget teams.
