A few days of warmer temperatures led to a shift from accumulating snowpack to melting resulting in rising river levels across the Southern Interior this week, putting the Kootenay / Boundary regions on flood alert.

The high stream advisory was posted by the B.C. River Forecast Centre on Thursday as they anticipate continued warm weather with a high pressure system moving over the lower province. Temperatures are expected to rise dramatically to the mid- to upper 20s over the weekend and into early next week.

River levels are expected to rise as the rapid snowmelt proceeds. Peak river levels are expected by Monday or Tuesday on small to medium size rivers.

The River Forecast Centre will be monitoring and updating this information over the next few days.
