Rossland REAL Food’s Second Annual Seedy Sunday & Movie at the Miners’ Hall on March 11

Starting to think about gardening and buying seeds for the fruitful season ahead? Some of the best local seed growers in the West Kootenays will have seeds for sale at Rossland’s annual Seedy Sunday at the Miners’ Hall from 3:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on March 10.
The seed swap will be followed by a scrumptious $5 vegetarian dinner, a cash bar, and a highly acclaimed documentary on bees—Queen of the Sun —at 6:30 p.m., also for $5.
The whole family-friendly shebang is proudly presented by Rossland REAL Food in partnership with the Rossland Council for Arts and Culture and the Kootenay Association for Science and Technology.
Farmers from Mountain Seeds, Seed Basket, Stellar Seeds and Cherry Meadows Farm will sell a wide variety of vegetable, fruit, and flower seeds that were grown right here in the West Kootenays, including heirloom and heritage varieties.
Organic seed potatoes will also be available, and Jeremy Lack from Mad Dog Farms in Castlegar will give a short presentation on growing potatoes at 4:30 p.m.
After chili and rice for dinner washed down with a cold beverage from the bar, a full length documentary “Queen of the Sun: What are the Bees Telling Us?” will give a profound, alternative look at the global bee crisis.
Described by critics as “the feel-good advocacy movie of the year,” and “gorgeous” with “near-psychedelic imagery,” this winner of 10 international film festival awards is sure to be worth every penny. Even the venerable Roger Ebert has chimed in, calling it “remarkable” and “one of the most beautiful nature films I’ve seen.”
The film takes us on a journey through the catastrophic disappearance of bees and the mysteries of the beehive, visiting beekeepers, scientists, and philosophers from around the world. Ultimately, the experience is uplifting as the film weaves an engaging and dramatic story about renewing a culture in balance with nature.
