RCMP report and internet / telephone scam is making its way around the Village of Nakusp.

Police report a Nakusp citizen recently applied for and was offered a job to be a Mystery Shopper for Winners Merchants International L.P.

The citizen was sent a cheque and they were asked to cash it at a local bank.

Once cashed, the citizen was directed to send the money by Money Gram and Western Union so that the company could assess how Money Gram and Western Union treated their customers and if they verified certain required information.

Unfortunately, the cheque is counterfeit and this is indeed a scam.

Nakusp RCMP and other RCMP detachments and agencies are investigating this matter as a fraudulent operation.

The police would like the public to be cautious when any company or person requests you to send money to them in any fashion.

The RCMP is seeking any information the public might have on the person or persons involved in this crime.  Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Nakusp RCMP at (250) 265-3677 or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
