West Kootenay Cats rained on by Tri-Cities at Surrey Girl's Hockey Tournament

High powered Tri-Cities knocked the West Kootenay Wildcats out of the Surrey Girl’s Minor Hockey Tournament, dumping the local squad 5-0 in semi final action.

The loss was the third of the season for the Cats against a Tri-Cities team that consists of players from three Lower Mainland teams.

“Tri Cities and only let in five goals (during the tournament),” said a Wildcats team spokesperson.

“Many other teams lose to them by double digits. The coaches of the Tri Cities team commented on how well our team played against them.”

West Kootenay opened the tourney by stopping 100 Mile House 3-0 on goals by Emma Hare, with two, and Anjela Szabo.

Stephanie McAuley had two assists for the Cats.

The Wildcats continued to shine on the Lower Mainland by scoring a 6-0 win oger North Shore Winter Club.

Jesse Cooper of Nelson led the charge with two goals while McAuley, Julie Sidoni, Jena Wheeldon and Merissa Dawson, the latter two from Nelson, added singles.

The Wildcats lost its final game to host Surrey 2-1 to fall into second spot in the division.

Cooper, with an assist to Dawson, scored the only goal for West Kootenay.
