NPD called to domestic dispute, take man into custody

Nelson Police Department officers took a man in custody Thursday evening after a report of a possible domestic assault in progress in Fairview.

At approximately 9 p.m., police responded to a 911 call of a possible domestic assault in progress after a the caller reported hearing a female in distress.

When police arrived they located a male at the residence who had a Conditional Sentence Order with a condition not to have contact with the female occupant of the suite. 

As a result, a 48-year old Nelson area resident, who is very well known to local police, was arrested and transported to NPD cells. 

He remained in police custody overnight and is scheduled to attend court in Castlegar on January 20 on charges of breaching his CSO.

Tuesday, at approximately 4:10 p.m. a Nelson Police officer was on patrol in the area of Baker and Ward St. 

The officer watched a male at that location hand a second male a baggy in what the officer believed to be a drug deal. 

The two males were arrested and searched, and a baggy of psilocybin (magic mushrooms) was located on one of the males.

As a result, a 28-year old Nelson resident was charged with trafficking in a controlled substance under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. 

The male was later released on a Promise to Appear for court in March. 

He also was released on an undertaking that restricted his access to parts of Nelson’s downtown core.
