A backpack containing 18 pounds of drug ecstasy valued at $135,000 was found abandoned along the border just west of Danville on Monday.

The United States Border Patrol seized the “designer” drug and $14,000 in American currency near the port of entry on the American side. The ecstasy was packaged in powder form.

Agents discovered the contraband and currency concealed in the backpack abandoned in an area adjacent to the border.

“This is yet another example of our agents highly skilled ability to track and interdict people and narcotics traversing our international border,” said Chief Patrol Agent Gloria Chavez about Monday’s successful seizure. “We will continue to expand our CBP enforcement capabilities to enhance the safety and security of our border communities.”

The seized contraband and cash were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.
