Christmas programs, changes, and more!

As we move towards the Christmas break there are lots of program changes and additions to note! If you currently enjoy a program or class in one of the school buildings – MacLean Elementary School, Rossland Secondary School or MacLean Annex, all classes and programs cancel over the Christmas holiday, which starts Monday, December 19 and runs until Tuesday, January 3, 2012.  Affected programs include; Karate, Family Basketball, Volleyball and Indoor Soccer. 

Public Skating for the week of December 12 to December 19, 2011

The City of Rossland outdoor ice rink located on 3rd Ave, between Spokane Street and Washington Street.   The Public Works Department will be installing a fire pit and benches in the next few days.  Bring some wood to build a fire and enjoy our beautiful outdoor ice rink!  

Sr.’s Duffer Hockey on Tuesday mornings runs from 9:30-10:45am each week.  This is a great program for enthusiastic Seniors who would like to learn how to play hockey or already know and want to get out and play.  Over the Christmas holiday, Tuesday, December 20 is on, and Tuesday, December 27 has been cancelled.   Play resumes in January!

If you can’t get enough hockey, Co-Ed REC Hockey runs through the holiday season with a few changes.

Kids REC Hockey on Thursdays takes a break over the Christmas holiday too.  Classes on Thursday December 22 and 29 have both cancelled.  The program resumes on January 5, 2012. 

If you enjoy backcountry and cross-country skiing at the Nancy Greene summit, stop by the Recreation Department to pick up a topographic map of the area, complete with locations of all the cabins. 

The Little Gretzky’s Hockey program started Tuesday, November 22 from 11:00-11:45am in the Rossland Arena.  Team Profilli has signed on to lead the next generation of hockey players to learn the fundamentals of skating and hockey.  If you have a preschooler in the house, who would like to learn to skate and play hockey, register them for the Little Gretzky’s program!   Skaters need a full face hockey mask, neck guard, skates, good mits or gloves and a hockey stick.  Parents are encouraged to come out on the ice and will also need a full face hockey helmet and skates.  Drop ins are welcome at $10.00 per family.  The program takes a break over the Christmas holiday and resumes on Tuesday, January 3, 2012.

The Recreation Department will be creating a supplementary Winter brochure for the months of January to March, 2012.  If you would like to run a program, please contact our office to discuss the specifics.
