A passenger died after being thrown from a truck he was travelling in when it lost control on slippery roads today.

72-year-old Jacob Giesbrecht of Grand Forks was not wearing his seatbelt when he was ejected from the truck as it slid off the road and died as a result of his injuries. The driver suffered injuries as well and was taken to the Boundary Hospital for treatment.

The accident occurred on the North Fork Road near Henderson Road at about 9:30 a.m. today. RCMP, paramedics and the Grand Forks Fire and Rescue teams were all on site.

“Initial investigation foundn the driver of a 2004 Ford F350 pick up was travelling south on North Fork Road and lost control in snow and slush conditions,” explained Sgt. Derrick Donovan with the West Kootenay Traffic Services. “With several recent tragic collisions police would like to remid motorists to drive in relation to the changing winter road conditions.”

RCMP also reminds everyone to wear their seatbelts when travelling.
