Two tournaments, two silver medals for Kaslo/Nelson Midget Reps
For the second tournament in a week the Kaslo/Nelson Midget Reps settled for second place.
South Okanagan scored in each period en route to a 3-1 victory over Kaslo/Nelson in the final of the Kelowna Minor Hockey Midget Rep Tournament Sunday in the Central Okanagan City.
Kaslo/Nelson lost to Tri-Cities in the final of the Westbank tournament earlier this month.
Brett Anderson’s second period marker snapped a 1-1 tie powering South Okanagan to the win.
Matt MacDonald scored the only goal for Kaslo/Nelson.
Kaslo/Nelson looked like the team to beat in the tournament after exploding for 23 goals in three preliminary games.
The Reps opened the tourney blasting North Vancouver Storm 7-1.
Seven different scorers turned the red light on for Kaslo/Nelson, which jumped to a quick 4-1 first period lead.
Colton Dawson, Dylan Whiffen, Ryan Tate, Liam Butterfield, MacDonald, Zeke Grimshaw and Mitch Klein scored for Kaslo/Nelson.
Kaslo/Nelson then turned on the offence in the third period, scoring six times to dump Summerland 8-2.
Whiffen and Michael Viala each scored twice for Kaslo/Nelson.
Tate, Grimshaw, MacDonald and Dawson also scored for the winners.
Kaslo/Nelson advanced to play West Kootenay rival Castlegar, defeating the Sunflower City squad 8-5.
Castlegar appeared to be in the driver’s season, holding period leads of 4-2 and 5-4.
But the Reps snapped out of its shell to pump a four-spot into the Castlegar goal to win going away.
MacDonald led the attack with three goals while Ross Jacobs added a pair. Singles went to Dawson, Tyler Maida and Peter Reimer.
Replying for Castlegar were Chase Butula, Lucas Zaytsoff, Grant Matthews, Simon Zwick and Ryan Giesler.
